Art to Wear

A Little Bit of History - Art to Wear/ Wearable Art

The ArtWear movement emerged at the close of the 1960s, flowered in the 1970s, and continues in the early 2000s. The social, political, and cultural upheavals of the 1960s provided fertile ground for personal expression and explorations into body adornment. So, it’s no accident that the art to wear movement crystallized at the end of that tumultuous decade.

During the 1970s “wearables” were generally unconventional works that celebrated the intimacy of creation through a highly individual artistic language. Today, wearable art has moved closer to mainstream contemporary fashion, revealing a stronger shared vision although, due to the reliance of fashion on commerce, its status as an art form (worthy of serious scholarly attention) has long been debated by art historians,

At we create unique and innovative wearable art objects inspired by impressionist, surrealists, cubists, abstract expressionists, and digital artists who make use of digital technologies in the production of art.

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” —Coco Chanel.
